I'm so excited that I can finally officially welcome you all to Wexler-Grant Library's Makerspace! So many fun things have been added to the library over February break. We now have a Lego Wall available for all students to use which I have been working towards for months. Thanks to a very generous donation from the Yale Class of 1951 we have a Lego Wall and legos to use with it!
Other fun library additions: we have an area to do magnetic poetry and another area to use chalk. We also have 3 new Mac computers ready for student use. Be sure to check out the new Makerspace tab under the library section of the website to see what else we've added or what's coming! Get ready to do a lot of fun things during your weekly library classes!!
I hope you all have a relaxing, happy and safe summer vacation! I'll be spending a lot of time this summer getting the library ready for the 2015-16 school year. New books will be on the shelves when you come back! Can't wait to see your faces by all the exciting titles I will be putting out! Enjoy your vacation and I'll see you Monday, August 31st!!
**Don't forget to check out our Summer Reading Lists!!**
I'm so excited to announce that our new library cirulation system is finally here! I can finally begin checking out books! Book check out will begin tomorrow and I know you are just as happy as I am. Click on the icon below to check out the new Destiny home page. Don't worry if it looks overwhelming - it's a lot different than our old system. We'll be spending time this year learning how to use Destiny. Before we know it you'll know more than me I'm sure! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me!
Students are always asking me for book recommendations but I want to hear from YOU. Tell me - what is your favorite book and why! Or, what book do you wish our school library had but doesn't? I can't wait to hear your thoughts!
Welcome back to another year at Wexler! I'm so happy to be back as your Library Media Specialist this year! I'm hoping to incorporate more computer time into library lessons to really help prepare you for the digital word that we live in. We also have two Book Fairs planned for this year - one in November and one in April so be on the look out for information regarding that. Looking forward to seeing you all in the library this year!
As you may be aware April is National Poetry Month. I can't wait to celebrate poetry with all my classes when they come into the library starting next week. Today some of the Sixth Graders got into poetry by creating their very own Book Spine Poetry. Check out their poetry below.
Give creating Book Spine Poetry a try!
1. Walk around the library shelves reading some book titles to spark an idea in your head.
2. Collect books from the shelves that would fit into your poem's main idea.
3. Sit at a desk and put the books together creating a poem.
4. Call me over to see so I can snap a picture. I LOVE Book Spine Poetry!!
Happy National Poetry Month!!
Students in 3rd Grade did a wonderful job presenting their projects a few weeks ago about the Black Historical Figure they researched. I'm so happy that they allowed me to showcase their projects in the library! I couldn't be more proud of them! Be sure to stop by the library to check out these amazing works of art!
