“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
What is a Makerspace?
Makerspaces are referred to as hackerspaces, hackspaces and fablabs. It is a designed as a creative place where students can gather, create and learn. Students are encouraged to tinker, invent, build, explore, innovate, make and do. The very best creativity and learning comes from extreme frustration and making mistakes. Disassembling is encouraged.
Why the library?
The library is in the center of the school. It is the hub of the school so it's a natural fit. In the library we promote inquiry and give students the opportunity to solve problems and find answers to questions.
The creation of the Makerspace has reinvented the purpose of the library in our building and what it has to offer. We are MUCH more than a room full of books and computers!
"Every child has the right to invent, tinker, create, innovate, make and do."
